The Sion Foundation Health Unit was established as a response to the unequal access to healthcare, particularly in rural areas far from medical facilities. Amid a shortage of healthcare workers, the high cost of medications, and the long distances to medical centers, the Health Unit aims to be an extension of God’s love for others. The presence of this service is a concrete way for the Sion Foundation to express its concern for the suffering of the community, as well as a gateway to proclaim the good news to everyone, regardless of background.

With a vision to be a means of sharing love through effective and transformative healthcare services, the Health Unit has two main objectives: to improve the community’s health standards through education and outreach so they can care for themselves, their families, and their environment; and to provide medical assistance to those experiencing health issues. The target audience for this service includes all segments of society, with a focus on rural areas far from access to healthcare facilities.

The Health Unit carries out various activities to reach and serve the community, including mobile clinics, health education, basic medical care, and basic health training for local health workers. To provide comprehensive services, the unit collaborates with volunteer doctors, nurses, hospitals, academics, village midwives, churches, and local government officials. Currently, there are 10 volunteer doctors and 81 health workers actively serving in the foothills of Mount Merbabu and Mount Merapi. Additionally, services are strengthened by the presence of three Lenmas posts and support from international partners such as GZB from the Netherlands.

The Sion Foundation’s Health Unit invites all parties to participate in realizing holistic and compassionate healthcare services. Guided by the motto “In a healthy body lies a strong spirit,” these services are not merely medical interventions but a tangible expression of God’s love that touches both body and soul.
